I still remember that quirky smile,
your dreams, simple thoughts of what might be.
Your whole life ahead unplanned,
yet laid out before you.
Thinking what might have been;
And stuck with what never happened.
Why did you leave us that warm summer eve?
Where did you go?
What now, never to see you again.
Goodbyes to a rust colored box,
shiny, cold, lifeless, sealed to keep us out or keep you in.
No breath, no life, no final word before good bye.
No sight of your smile to reassure.
And yet I remember – “See you tomorrow.”
And tomorrow still fails to come.
