We aren’t so different you and I.
We fear of being alone;
of dying too soon in a place not our own;
of hearing random voices;
of seeing faces we don’t know; and
of longing for love;
And so we long for someone to hold us in their arms,
and never let us go, and
bind us tightly in one place.
For we know if we wander,
we will find the dark corners,
the recesses where our demons dwell.
But in that caring person’s arms,
light only keeps the demon filled darkness at bay.
And so we learn to live in fear,
of those demons straining to come back in,
moving and calling but a step away,
waiting for that not too distant day when the light goes dark.
Yes we aren’t so different you and I.
