It is dark beyond,
my darkened room.
My window opens to a troubled realm,
of spirits and unwanted guests,
the least of which is myself I guess.
And so I close and tightly lock,
the window clasp,
and nail down the sill.
I start my slumbering fitful rest,
hoping I’m safe from what lies within.
Outside I can feel the rolling clouds,
warning me of a gathering storm.
And so the solitude of the night,
is really no solace at all,
bringing forth dreary thoughts
of dreary drops within the room,
and upon the roof and ground.
